Workshops
It's been my experience that many conversations around issues of equity and inclusion can be, and often are, extremely triggering. These issues are not topics for everyday, casual conversation. For many of us, they involve deeply rooted personal life experiences of either oppression or privilege.

It is for this reason that my seminars are discussions rather than lectures. They include exercises in real time, Q&As, spaces for feedback and opportunities to work through the information as a community. I bring a lighthearted approach to some very heavy topics and do my best to create an environment where all genuine questions are welcome, because (as my father always said) there are no stupid questions.
Intersectionality: A Workshop on Coalition Building
Designed to explain exactly what it means to carry multiple intersecting identities and how this knowledge can be used to rectify social inequality.
Coined by lawyer and activist Kimberlé Crenshaw in 1989, "intersectionality" describes the ways that our overlapping and intersecting identities can affect our social mobility.

This workshop works best for organizations with a diverse population looking to increase awareness within their ranks. It focuses on what it's like to be in each others shoes. The training includes personal exercises and examples pulled from the current population survey, so it is not "ready made". Contact me today to work out the specific challenges within your organization. We will work together to tailor this training for your needs.
Double Voicing: The Language of Leadership
More than just a communication workshop, this training will specifically target the linguistic phenomena called "Double Voicing".
Double Voicing is a speech pattern that subconsciously conveys a speaker's heightened awareness of, and responsiveness to, the thoughts, feelings and needs of the audience. There are 4 types of double voicing, and in this workshop we learn how to harness them to our advantage to increase confidence and build team cohesion.

A typical workshop includes two styles of double voicing. The training is best delivered in a 2 hour segment. This insures that the full scope of the phenomena is absorbed. A condensed, 1 hour training is available for those with limited availability.
Taking the Drama Out of Pronouns
Designed to demystify the definitions and differences between biological sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression.
General understanding about the difference between biological sex and gender identity is as wide as the gender spectrum itself. This training lays the groundwork for a larger discussion by first clarifying the definitions and differences between biological sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, and gender expression. These are four separate categories of identification, not an algebraic equation that equal someone's pronoun.

This 1 hour training includes examples pulled from pop culture and practical steps we can all take to normalize the inclusion of our pronouns in everyday settings.
